Field Trip to Cherokee

On Friday, we went to Oconaluftee Indian Village which is part of the Museum of the Cherokee Indian. The village is a living museum built as a replica of a Cherokee village from the 1760s. We learned a lot about Cherokee culture and history and how life changed with the arrival of European settlers. Parents, your kids can tell you about the pictures below…

Our chicks are growing!

We candled our eggs today.  We all crammed into the hallway where it was dark and we candled each of our eggs to see how they are developing.  We have six fertile developing eggs!  We saw some of the embryos moving inside the eggs!  You can see a video of a candled egg on the Parent Supervision page.  See the pictures of our eggs below…

This is an infertile egg, like the kind you buy at the grocery store.  It is pretty clear inside because there is not a growing embryo.

This is a fertile egg at Day 7 of incubation.  You can see the black spot in the middle, which is the embryo.  You can see the blood vessels extending around the embryo.

This is a fertilized egg at Day 9 of incubation.  You can see the dark silhouette  of the embryo is much bigger.  You can also see the blood vessels.

This is the same egg as above (Day 9) from a different angle.

Butterflies

Last Friday we did our final butterfly observation and we released all of our Painted Lady Butterflies.  See our photos and videos below…
